This goes for both girls and boys, but I find the tradition of automatically circumcising all American infant boys to be completely absurd. The male foreskin is an extremely nerve-rich, sensitive part of the penis. It’s estimated that up to 1/3 of the penis’s total nerves, which enhance orgasm, are lost when a male is circumcised. This greatly decreases the wonderful feeling and intensity of orgasm. I realize that male circumcision is a religious tradition for some; I’m not going to argue religion. But to have a boy’s foreskin removed purely for aesthetic purposes is unnecessary and potentially harmful to his future sex life. Botched circumcisions are not unheard of and the myth that circumcision is not painful to a baby boy is just that: a myth.
